Who Should Attend?

The 2010 South Beach Symposium is designed to meet the needs of physicians and professional staff members of medical practices specializing in dermatology, pediatric dermatology, plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery and other dermatologic medical procedures.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this activity, attendees will be better able to:

  • Define current trends associated with clinical dermatology, cosmetic dermatology and laser surgery.
  • Demonstrate how to prevent and treat complications stemming from a variety of aesthetic procedures.
  • Review the latest advances in photodynamic therapy.
  • Recognize common and important skin disorders in infants, children and adolescents.
  • Discuss new treatment options for acne, psoriasis and inflammatory dermatoses.
  • Analyze the adjunctive use of topical immune response modifiers and stimulators in various surgical therapies.
  • Diagnose and evaluate new treatment algorithms for melanoma.
  • Apply techniques for optimal results of aesthetic laser and intense pulsed light treatments in practice.
  • Outline the commonly used topical and systemic therapy available for common skin conditions.
  • Recognize and apply advanced techniques in lasers, light and radiofrequency devices.
  • Employ techniques for optimal results in overall skin rejuvenation.
  • Compare and contrast the role of invasive and non-invasive procedures and techniques in body shaping.
  • Apply techniques for acne in skin of color patients.
  • Demonstrate advanced techniques in the use and application of various neurotoxins and dermal fillers.
  • Distill the rules, regulations, practice management techniques and business information necessary for a successful medical practice.

Accreditation and Credit Hours

Physicians

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through joint sponsorship of AKH Inc., Advancing Knowledge in Healthcare and SBS Medical Education, LLC. AKH Inc. is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

AKH Inc. designates this educational activity for a maximum of 39.75 AMA PRA Category 1 credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The South Beach Symposium (Program #20100) is recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology for 39.75 AAD Recognized Category 1 CME Credits and may be used toward the American Academy of Dermatology's Continuing Medical Education Award.

Nurses

AKH Inc. is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's COA.

AKH Inc. designates this educational activity for 34 contact hours (3.40 CEUs). Accreditation applies solely to educational activities and does not imply approval or endorsement of any commercial product by the ANCC-COA.

Statements of credit will be awarded based on participant attendance, completion of registration for credit form and evaluation form, and will be mailed within 4-6 weeks after the program. Partial credit is available.
